A 90 min Vinyasa Class accompanied by the story of Shiva's Bow! This sequence culminates in a backbend series making the shape of Shiva's strung bow. En route to the backbends there are several twist and balances so you may need a block for support. The story is taken from Zoe Newell's Downward Dogs & Warriors...a fabulous book of stories about Shiva & other heroes from Indian epics. Honouring the Goddess Lakshmi, as part of the Navaratri Celebration, this 90min vinyasa class includes plenty of Twists & and Backbends to open the heart. The Opening chant evoking Lakshmi energy is: OM SHREEM MAHALAKSHMYAI NAMAHA - Join me and chant, joyfully!!! There is a little partner work included in this class, so if you're practising solo: In the first set of partner work where we practise a gentle backbend over our partners childs pose, you could consider a passive backbend over a bolster. Towards the end of the class choose to practice one or all from Setu Bandasana, Chakrasana, Dwi Pada Viparita Dandasana - then complete your practice with a gentle twist, childs pose or happy baby! This 90 min mixed level vinyasa class was recorded the evening following the full moon in Aug '10. It is a class that is bathed in the auspicious lunar energies of inner wisdom, balance, creativity and playfulness. With lots of heart and hip opening to allow the lunar love to flow! You may need a yoga block as we include Ardha Chandrasana (Half Moon) and maybe a blanket or padding for some kneeling poses. On August 22nd we were blessed with a beautiful sunny afternoon so eighteen yogi's took our practice outdoors!!! Deb Auden & I taught this 2hr flowing class to open the respiratory system and heart space to the vibrant outdoor prana! As we were outdoors and we had a warm breeze the sound on this podcast is not first class but...hey, ho.....you can still get the gist! There is a mid section where we did some partner work so if you don't have buddies with you when you practice maybe spend some time playing with half bridge, full setu bandasana (bridge) or chakrasana (wheel). Here's the last class of the term for those of you who couldn't be there! It's a 90 min vinyasa class and you may want to have a block in reaching distance. There is some partner work towards the end of the class. If you are working alone you could practice the tripod headstand with your back a short distance away from the wall and do a regular down dog and childs pose instead of the partner work! This gentle 45 min practice is focused on the low back. The sessions aims to open and strengthen the low back area by creating space around the lower lumbar & sacral area and toning the postural muscles in a reaxed and gentle way. The soft movement is followed by a replenishing mini yoga nidra. You may need a yoga strap, bolster and blanket for the modifications and more comfort during relaxation....Bliss out!!
